Summer Reading List for Teens

I have a theory.

I will often ask this question to my friends and here how it usually goes...

Me: "Do you like to read?"
Friend: "No!"

So my theory is that its because of the books that teachers make their students in High School read. "The Lord of the Flies?" "Animal Farm?" "The Devils Arithmetic?" These are all great books (I loved "The Devils Arithmetic," it's a great book with a neat perspective on the Holocaust), but for teens who don't really read any books that they don't have to for school, it kind of gives them a bad idea on what ALL books are like - they don't realize that there are hundreds of amazing Young Adult books that aren't like the ones they read in school at all!

Just a few of my friends in high school and college like to read - Caylee, Jade, Caitlyn, and Lyndsey!

For the teens that like to read - and for the ones that don't - here is a list of some of the Young Adult books that I have LOVED!

This is one of my favorite books. I hardly ever read books over, but I've read this one twice and am looking forward to my third time! It is a great summer read as it is on the beach, has Celtic mystery in it, with a dash of romance. It is just....well, read it and you will know!

This is the other book that I have loved and read over and over again - three times now. It was actually a coincidence that I own it now - I rented it from the library in FL and was reading by the pool, and oops, it got damaged :( however, it all worked out in the end since I've read it and LOVE it! It is a great book about the story of a girl who becomes a model. it really makes you realize how much these girls go through just to follow their dreams.

Every teen - even girls who don't like to read - should read at least the first book in the "Private" series by Kate Brian. These books are extremely addicting! They are quick reads which make them perfect for reading on the beach, but they have enough mystery and crazyiness to make them interesting and not like the many other boarding school books.

"After" by Amy Efaw is perfect for a rainy day. It is a heartbreaking story of a teen girl who isn't sure what to do with her baby girl and ends up choosing the wrong choice and in result her life becomes a mess as her life is thrown in front of her.

Ponytails? Leave your hair down? Throw in a headband? All good for a casual day doing school work or gardening, but its not alway suitable. Sometimes different events require a fancier due and you might find yourself curling your hair in soft waves, curling ringlets, or straightening it flat. One of the key's to ending up with a professional looking hairstyle is the type of product you use in it!

White Sands offers a lot of great hair products and gives you the options to choose one that suits your style. From shampoos and conditioners to hairsprays and Mousse type products your sure to find one that fits your needs!

I chose the Liquid Texture Firm Hold hairspray. I decided to try it because it said you could spray it in and then brush through your hair, which I often want/need to do if I miss some baby hairs sticking up! It also makes your hair shiny with the more heat products you use, so if your curling or straightening your hair, this would be perfect.

I overall liked this product, but I did wish that it would have had more "hold" to it. The first time I used it, I had curled my hair and then sprayed this in and a few minutes later my curls were almost gone. I'm not sure if it was the spray or the humidity that day because I didn't have this same problem other times I used it! However, it still wasn't quite as strong as I would have liked. However, it is nice that it adds shine to your hair! Often times when I use special shine sprays my hair just ends up looking greasy, but not with the White Sands product!

I love these warm days of summer! It's been so hot here for the past two days, and I've been riding so much! There was a horse show on Sunday which we got up at 4:00 AM for! It was my first time showing on Skye and she did pretty good! However, in the first English Pleasure class, the saddle slipped almost all the way of her side because of the Shine spray that we used for the Showmanship class! It was a great show overall though!

I thought that I would let you know about this great new Online Magazine called Sweet Paul, which is started by the owner of none other but the Sweet Paul blog! It is so packed full of inspiration - from cotton candy lemonade to ice cube bottles! I love the fresh feeling of it. The first issue of it is now out! I loved it!

These shoes are so beautiful! They have intricate detailing on the heal and have many gorgeous diamonds on the front part. They stay on easily, even though they are 4inches tall and have one strap! You can tell that they are high quality! I am excited to wear these to different events, I think they would be perfect for a wedding, among other occasions! I did find that they were a bit on the small size, I usually wear size 9 and I feel like I could have gotten a 9.5 or even a 10, so that's one thing to keep in mind!

Another nice thing that I found about 4Prom is that they ship quickly, which is convenient if you can't make a decision until the last minute!

Look to the Sky Flower Belt DIY Project

I was inspired by this Down East Basics belt:

And so I decided to create one of my own!

Are you adding a note or a person?

Crafting 5 little flowers by taking sets of 5 squares of chiffon, cutting them into circles, stitching and bending them in different ways so they looked like flowers.

I then added little diamonds to the center, added 3 pleats on each side of the where I was to add the flowers, hot glued the flowers onto a wide piece of white satin ribbon....

And am having the best of time wearing it!
